Need Help Please!!!

Post by megman » 06-14-2008 11:11 PM

At the moment I can't seem to access Google. It's happened here before.

If someone could Google a program for me called 3e4 and post any pertinent info here ASAP it would be appreciated.

I've got something really funky going on with the craptop and I'm trying to nail it down.

Thanks.

OK, now I'm open for suggestions on anything short of a format and re-install, which is looking likely at this point.....

I'm not finding squat. Twice now when rebooting I've had Windows telling me it can't shut down certain programs. The first time was 3e4. This time it was 3a8. I can't even locate any of these in the Registry.

Heck, I just noticed that there are only 5 smilies next to this text box when there should be 15. Google won't search, email won't load. Getting serious here.

Meg - hardly an expert here, and I know you are very savvy with this stuff. Sounds like you have a vicious self-replicated virus.

Have you tried Trend Micro? They have a virus scanning program that can sometimes run ahead of these viruses and isolate them.

Sorry to hear about this.

Ah, well. Never mind. Trend Micro seems to no longer offer this service. Bummer.

Thanks for checking Linnea.:)

I am pretty savy but I'm also pretty rusty. I installed a 3rd party registry tool, located 3e4 and 3a8 and deleted them. But it apparently morphed into something uglier.

I'm presently in the process of re-installing everything after a format.:(

Hey Megman, have you tried any of the following three programs:

Spybot Search & Destroy
Spyware Blaster
Ad-Aware

All three are free and work pretty good. Just be sure to back up all your info in case something goes wrong.

Saw those SETIsLady, and attempted but by that point it already morphed into something else. The 3e4 spawned 3a8 and who knows what else. The cancer had spread.

Kaz, I've used those programs for the better part of 10 yrs, and as good as they are they were no match for this sucker. Normally I can root them out in the Registry. But the new generation of trojans and what not are getting ahead of this old guy.............

I would highly recommend all three of these since they are the only thing I use on all my computers. No anti-virus except AVG but I don't keep it running. I only use it to run a scan once a month or so. It's probably just spyware/adware megman.
