"The worst case in global consequence is rising sea level. It will have many affects that are different from place to place, but rising sea level is a major consequence that will have the biggest social and political consequences because it will displace hundreds of millions of people. So, sea level rise is at the top of my list and my own guess as to what we’ll see in this century is anywhere from 3 to 6 feet"

Talk about a lot of information!

Janus232 I truly believe these events have always been and will always be until this planet has lived out its life.

Different religions have interpreted these past events in many different ways. Like any catastrophic event, whether it be our little wars attempting to eliminate those with opposing views or the larger concern of earth changes. It’s the survivors that are allowed to write the history books.

These things have been and will come again.

Panic will create turmoil.
In a turmoil state of mind human beings tend to make unproductive self serving decisions.

Convinced severe changes are knocking at our door I propose a solution.

love and care for even those you would see unworthy
lead by example… allow your actions to be your testimony
except the fact that we are not alone in our flaws
the more we can take care of and put first others the better equipped we will be to overcome these inevitable changes.

There is always sunshine after rain.:)

Large-scale simulation of methane hydrate dissociation along the West Spitsbergen Margin
"Vast quantities of methane are trapped in oceanic hydrate deposits, and there is concern that a rise in the ocean temperature will induce dissociation of these hydrate accumulations, potentially releasing large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. The recent discovery of active methane gas venting along the landward limit of the gas hydrate stability zone (GHSZ) on the shallow continental slope west of Spitsbergen could be an indication of this process, if the source of the methane can be confidently attributed to dissociating hydrates"

A strong bout of natural cooling in 2008
"A precipitous drop in North American temperature in 2008, commingled with a decade-long fall in global mean temperatures, are generating opinions contrary to the inferences drawn from the science of climate change. We use an extensive suite of model simulations and appraise factors contributing to 2008 temperature conditions over North America. We demonstrate that the anthropogenic impact in 2008 was to warm the region's temperatures, but that it was overwhelmed by a particularly strong bout of naturally-induced cooling resulting from the continent's sensitivity to widespread coolness of the tropical and northeastern Pacific sea surface temperatures. The implication is that the pace of North American warming is likely to resume in coming years, and that climate is unlikely embarking upon a prolonged cooling"

Transoceanic infragravity waves impacting Antarctic ice shelves
"The response of the Ross Ice Shelf to IG-wave induced flexural stresses is more than 60 dB greater than concurrent ground motions measured at nearby Scott Base. This strong coupling suggests that IG-wave forcing may produce ice-shelf fractures that enable abrupt disintegration of ice shelves that are also affected by strong surface melting. Bolstering this hypothesis, each of the 2008 breakup events of the Wilkins Ice Shelf coincides with wave-model-estimated arrival of IG-wave energy from the Patagonian coast"

Climate engineering by artificial ocean upwelling: Channelling the sorcerer's apprentice
"Recent suggestions to reduce the accumulation of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have included ocean fertilization by artificial upwelling. Our coupled carbon-climate model simulations suggest that artificial upwelling may, under most optimistic assumptions, be able to sequester atmospheric CO2 at a rate of about 0.9 PgC/yr. However, the model predicts that about 80% of the carbon sequestered is stored on land, as a result of reduced respiration at lower air temperatures brought about by upwelling of cold waters. This remote and distributed carbon sequestration would make monitoring and verification particularly challenging. A second caveat predicted by our simulations is that whenever artificial upwelling is stopped, simulated surface temperatures and atmospheric CO2 concentrations rise quickly and for decades to centuries to levels even somewhat higher than experienced in a world that never engaged in artificial upwelling"

On the effect of a new grand minimum of solar activity on the future climate on Earth
"The current exceptionally long minimum of solar activity has led to the suggestion that the Sun might experience a new grand minimum in the next decades, a prolonged period of low activity similar to the Maunder minimum in the late 17th century"

Interesting . I see solar maximum, rather than a minimum in the coming decade.
It’s a wave effect. We are now between waves in cooler calm waters soon to be disrupted once again.
But as we all know global warming can actually create an Ice Age.

A Climate for Change: Our past can tell us about our future
"a History of Scotland's Weather and Climate traces the history of climate conditions in Scotland, showing that dramatic changes have played an important part in shaping Scotland's history"
http://www.sott.net/articles/show/20711 ... our-future

Geomagnetic excursions: Knowns and unknowns
"Geomagnetic excursions are short-lived episodes when Earth’s magnetic field deviates into an intermediate polarity state. Understanding the origin, frequency, amplitude, duration, and field behavior associated with excursions is a forefront research area within solid earth geophysics. Recent advances in excursion research are summarized here, and key further research is suggested to resolve major unanswered questions"
http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2008/2 ... 4719.shtml

Potential for a hazardous geospheric response to projected future climate changes
"Periods of exceptional climate change in Earth history are associated with a dynamic response from the geosphere, involving enhanced levels of potentially hazardous geological and geomorphological activity. The response is expressed through the adjustment, modulation or triggering of a broad range of surface and crustal phenomena, including volcanic and seismic activity, submarine and subaerial landslides, tsunamis and landslide ‘splash’ waves, glacial outburst and rock-dam failure floods, debris flows and gas-hydrate destabilization. In relation to anthropogenic climate change, modelling studies and projection of current trends point towards increased risk in relation to a spectrum of geological and geomorphological hazards in a warmer world, while observations suggest that the ongoing rise in global average temperatures may already be eliciting a hazardous response from the geosphere. Here, the potential influences of anthropogenic warming are reviewed in relation to an array of geological and geomorphological hazards across a range of environmental settings. A programme of focused research is advocated in order to: (i) understand better those mechanisms by which contemporary climate change may drive hazardous geological and geomorphological activity; (ii) delineate those parts of the world that are most susceptible; and (iii) provide a more robust appreciation of potential impacts for society and infrastructure"

NOAA: Global Temps Push Last Month to Hottest March on Record
"The world’s combined global land and ocean surface temperature made last month the warmest March on record, according to NOAA. Taken separately, average ocean temperatures were the warmest for any March and the global land surface was the fourth warmest for any March on record. Additionally, the planet has seen the fourth warmest January – March period on record"

Does anyone remember back in 1974 when the Earth was doomed due to an impending Ice Age because the Earth was cooling off??

I am far from an expert on ths, but the 70s Global Cooling talks from my understanding was never an overwhelming scientists conclusion like Global Warming is now. Time Mag picked up a story on it at the time (and I think made a cover story of it) because some were saying it, but it was never as widely acknowledged as scientists think now for Global Warming.

Unfortunately that cover is now taken as "See they thought it was Global Cooling back then" even though the "they" is not nearly as large or credibile as it seems to be now.
