Thanks for the ride, Art

Post by WestBorder » 12-21-2010 03:14 PM

I have it on good authority that Art Bell made the decision to end any and all affiliation with Coast-to-Coast AM, which is why his name no longer appears on the C2C website.

Art, if you read this, and not knowing if we will ever hear your voice over the airwaves again, I wanted to thank for so many great years and so many great shows. My best wishes to you, Airyn and Asia for the future.

Thank you for the ride.

I also want to thank you for the ride Art, you are loved and will be sadly missed, I know things don't last forever even if we want them to.

Good luck to you and your lovely family.:)

Art, if it is true that you have cut the last strand with c2c, I can not blame you.

I also want to thank you for so many years of excellent and thought provoking late night radio. I will always hope that one day you will return to us, even if it is just from time to time.

My very best to you and your beautiful family - and please give Yeti a hug from me.;)

Art quit, he has had enough, the last line in Art's message "Long live the hot air" in my opinion is a stab at Noory. Art's G2G show was horrible with all the dumb downed callers and he more then likely said that is it...

I do know that he quit and it had nothing to do with a compromise or anything that Clear Channel wanted or didn't want.

As much as I will miss Art I really don't blame him for not wanting any association with Coast, what an embarrassment it must be to him.

I think his hamcam message says it all loud and clear.

"When I die, and if God sends me to Heaven, I will spend eternity delivering newspapers in the county at four in the morning, listening to Art Bell on the radio as the Universe blows up around us, in a world where it's eighty degrees until Christmas."

I have been so frustrated with you for so long. But this, to be honest, gives me final closure. And, for me personally, to do it at the end of the first decade of the 21st Century, makes total sense.

I'll see you in Heaven, Art. 'Til then, may God bless and keep you.

This was the right decision.
Did you ever stop to think, and then forget to start again?

Art--I will miss you! For many different reasons. Your shows were addictive and brilliant. I loved your voice and after a while could barely fall asleep without hearing it. I spent much of the 90's captivated to the point that I lost a great deal of sleep and then dragged through my work the following days. You are an icon and giant among those in radio. You worked a kind of magic that is rare and priceless and CANNOT be duplicated. Thank you for taking my own experience seriously and being kind when you interviewed me. I never dreamed that I would be a guest on your show. Selfishly I would hope you would find a way to communicate or host again. If not, then best of the best of everything for the Bells.

I don't know if this is a total shock, or just an acceptance of the inevitable. I will (already have been) miss Art's live shows. As Saharaka has already noted, we have all spent a good portion of our lives listening intently to Art's shows - of which there were no comparison - and then spending the next day in a daze trying to function through the lost hours of sleep. But it was all worth it.

I pray that Art will be able to find another venue for his fans, but, if his intent is to truly step back, I can't blame him. He's been a radio pioneer in the truest sense of the word, and has given us all a gift via his voie and persepctive that will most likely, be unmatched in our lifetime.

Part of me wants to beg him to come back, part wants me to wish him all the best in his personal life, and part wants me to download as many of his old shows as I can.

Hopefully we will hear something definite regarding his plans. :(

Good luck either way! At least we have your classic shows to listen to.

You cannot hear Art on Ham in the U.S. since he is in Philippines, apparently those days are gone.
