Elderly Face NHS Discrimination Under New UN Death Targets

Post by Riddick » 05-29-2015 11:39 PM

The NHS could be led to discriminate against the over 70s to meet ‘highly unethical’ UN health targets which seek to reduce premature deaths in younger people, senior medics have warned.

Under the proposed Sustainable Development Goals, UN member states will be given targets to cut the number of deaths from diseases like cancer, stroke, diabetes and dementia by one third by 2030.

However because many are age-related illnesses people who succumb to those diseases from the age of 70 are not deemed to have died prematurely and so are not included in the target.

In an open letter published in The Lancet, an international group of ageing specialists say the new guideline sends out the message that health provision for younger groups must be prioritised at the expense of older people.

Prof Peter Lloyd-Sherlock, professor of social policy and international development at the University of East Anglia, and lead author of the letter, said: “This premature mortality target is highly unethical, since it unjustifiably discriminates against older people.

“We already know that there is age discrimination in cancer care and surgery and these targets give that the stamp of approval.

“The targets are not quite set in stone yet, so we have a final opportunity to impress upon the UN the need to alter this explicitly ageist health target.

“If this doesn’t happen, people aged 70 and over will become second-class citizens as far as health policy is concerned.”
...
The Sustainable Development Goals which are due to come into effect later this year, replace the Millenium Development Goals which ran up to 2015 and include ambitions for climate change, health care, development and policy.

If the target was met, around 42,000 lives would be saved each year for the under 70s. However if older people were included in the target an extra 130,000 lives would be saved.

Although the guidelines are not binding, health experts warn that the UN is likely to take a dim view of countries who fail to comply.

Welcome to Agenda 21! As the Borg say "To resist is futile". The UN should have been ground to dust years ago.

Makes you wonder who it is that makes these proposals and drives implementation.......

This has been a U N plan for a long time. There are approx, 193 nations signed up, I doubt that there will be "agreement" with even a small portion of that number. Nations like people can't agree on anything either. One reason the US may be in it up to to their eyeballs is that our "sovereignty" , has been gone for quite some time, both land and sea.

If you haven't noticed O loves speaking to the UN. And if you really are into punishment listen to those speeches, it's like his true self pops out and it is scary. No, he didn't create this mess, but he sure loves implimenting it. The US and England for sure, I am not sure about others at the moment. Canada & Mexico ? I do think there will be no border between US and Mexico, Canada, I don't know, perhaps will keep some of her sovereignty and control of it's border.

I am just speculating folks, just trying to think of "actions" and possible consequences..........

The UN is O’s post college Fraternity.

I bet the average person has no clue just how far reaching their tentacles really are.

Oh, this drove us nuts last year. We were preparing to a Joint Commission survey at the hospital, and we had to pull al of our material safety data sheets and replace them with the new UN version.

The layout of the form was different than prior year's versions, and everyone had to have education on the new forms - besides caring for patients.....

I deal with clients who have to implement this as well so I understand the frustration. Imagine the New World Order trickling down to MSDS. That is how insidious this is.

Just a quick note here... After reading this thread, i was really disturbed.
Being the fact that this month I'll be in this group.

Funny thing is, for the first time in my life I had a stroke, shortly after reading this thread.
Weirdest thing that ever happened to me. Lost all feeling in my right arm and couldn't talk. Just babble. My friend knew what was happening and took me diretly to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

They said a 'mini stroke' .. I'm home now and resting.
All I want to say is the Doctors and especially the nurses were fantastic!

So they are really saving lives, so far..
And that's the good news.

A least for now...

So take good care of your self.. And may God Bless us all.

God Bless you Wave and so glad it appears to have been a minor stroke. It is nice having new folks, thank you for taking the time to join in and will be staying a long time.

Take good care of yourself and rest.
