In A Dramatic Shift From 2008, Red States Outnumber Blue States By A 3-2 Ratio

Post by Riddick » 05-07-2017 11:37 AM

In its nine years of tracking partisanship by state 2015 was the first time Gallup reported more Republican than Democratic states. Republican states continue to outnumber Democratic states based on residents' party affiliation throughout 2016.

Image

Overall, Gallup classifies 21 states as solid or leaning Republican, 14 as solid or leaning Democratic, and 15 states as competitive. That seven-state GOP advantage contrasts with a 30-state Democratic advantage in 2008.

The classification of states based on their party affiliation strongly corresponds with how those states voted in the 2016 presidential election. Donald Trump won all 21 solid or leaning Republican states, while Hillary Clinton won all 14 solid or leaning Democratic states.

Trump won nine of the 15 competitive states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana. Of those, Michigan may have been the most unlikely win for Trump, because it is the most Democratic of the competitive states, with a nearly five-point Democratic edge.

Clinton won the remaining six competitive states, including Minnesota, Maine, Virginia, Colorado, Nevada and New Hampshire. Her most unlikely win based on state party identification was in New Hampshire, which tilts Republican by four points.

Image

The 10 most Republican and 10 most Democratic states have remained fairly constant across the nine years Gallup has been compiling state partisanship data regularly. Eight of the 10 most Democratic states in this year's top 10 have appeared in the top 10 all nine years Gallup has compiled data. The other two (Connecticut and Delaware) have been in the top 10 eight of the nine years.

Gallup: ‘Democratic Party Image Dips, GOP Ratings Stable’

Post by Riddick » 05-18-2017 12:27 AM

Neither the Democrat Party nor the Republican Party are popular with Americans, but a new Gallup Poll indicates that the rating for Democrats has slipped five points since November, while the low rating for the Republican Party remained about the same.

The May 3-7 Gallup poll asked Americans whether they have a favorable or an unfavorable opinion of each party.

Forty percent of Americans said they view Democratic Party favorably, down from 45 percent in November. The Republican rating dropped one point, to 39 percent this month from 40 percent in November.

The decline in Democratic Party favorability is mostly a result of lower ratings from self-identified Democrats, Gallup said. And both parties’ ratings are below their historical norms.

Gallup notes that historically, Democrats’ ratings usually exceed Republicans' ratings -- by six percentage points, on average.

The implications, according to Gallup:
  • Americans are quite negative toward both of the major political parties at this time. Trump's unpopularity and the GOP's challenges in governing a divided nation have done little to weaken the party's poor image further. But those same factors have also done little to cast the opposing party, the Democrats, in a more favorable light.

If anything, the Democratic Party's positioning appears weakened, largely because its own supporters now hold a less positive view of the party. That could indicate Democrats are frustrated with the party's minority status in Washington.

Not since 2003 through 2006 have Democrats failed to control the presidency, House of Representatives or Senate. Prior to that, Democrats had control of either Congress or the presidency for more than 50 years.

Next year Democrats will have a chance to change their minority party status in the federal midterm elections. Midterm elections are often a referendum on the president, so Democrats' prospects for a strong showing are enhanced by Trump's low approval ratings.

However, if Democrats cannot improve their party's image between now and November 2018, it may hinder their ability to regain some measure of power in Washington.
The Gallup poll is based on telephone interviews conducted May 3-7, 2017, with a random sample of 1,011 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.

The extravagance continues on both sides with neither side being able to convince constituents that as politicians they "feel the pain" of their constituents. Look at Obama, out of the gate he went on a South Pacific cruise on yacht with elites, got a $400k speaking gig and intends to plop his presidential library in the Southside of Chicago where gun violence runs high.

By The Numbers

Post by Riddick » 07-18-2017 03:39 PM

71, 68, 62
Those are the approval ratings of Republican governors Charlie Baker in Massachusetts, Larry Hogan in Maryland and Phil Scott in Vermont – three of the bluest states in the country.

While the Democrat Party is becoming more and more confined to the coasts, Republican governors are overwhelmingly popular everywhere – even in Democrats’ own backyard.

Recent polling shows the 11 most popular governors are Republican, with four of them being states that are more reliably blue than they are red. FULL STORY

West Virginia Governor Announces He's Switching To GOP At Trump Rally

Post by Riddick » 08-05-2017 12:54 AM

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced he will flip from the Democratic Party to the GOP, making the announcement Thursday night while appearing at a rally with the president.

"Today I will tell you with lots of prayers and lots of thinking, I'll tell you West Virginians, I can't help you any more being a Democrat governor," Justice said.

"The Democrats walked away from me," the governor argued, and reflected that his late mother, who was a big fan of former President Ronald Reagan, was looking down on him thinking, "Jimmy, it's about damn time you came to your senses."

Trump had teased "a very big announcement" during the Huntington, W.Va., rally and the New York Times was first to report that Justice's party switch would be the major reveal.

First elected last November as a conservative Democrat, Justice is a billionaire coal and real estate businessman who has drawn comparisons to Trump. He has identified as a Republican and an independent in the past, and he declined to endorse Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Justice's switch means Republicans now have control of a record 34 governorships — tying a record set nearly a century ago in 1922 — and gives the GOP complete control of state government in 26 states.

NARRATIVE FAIL: Media Hypes Blue Wave In Texas, Republicans Shut It Down

Post by Riddick » 03-09-2018 02:37 AM

Leading up to Texans voting in the state's primary races on Tuesday, the media had tried to portray Texas as being on the verge of going blue for the first time in decades. The results, however, showed a very different story about what is going on in the state.

Sure, Democrats, motivated by their hatred of President Trump, showed up in large numbers, topping one million for the first time since the 2002 primaries — but the AP reports Republicans responded in even larger numbers, passing 1.5 million, breaking the party record of 1.48 million set in 2010.

After the results came in, former Ted Cruz campaign pollster Chris Wilson mocked the Democrats and the media's hype about a blue wave sweeping Texas as they hoped to alter reality.

“When it came down to it on election day, this blue wave ended being like a splash up against your ankles and it failed to materialize,” Wilson said.

This is a neat thread you brought up Riddick. Fascinating , (Sorry, can't think of a different word at the moment?). One thing that jumped out at me, was that no matter what label you choose to argue ,beat your chest, or pound your head on the floor for, there seems to be the "hand of fate" in the mix, that guides the human playpen. And , to be clear,I'm not talking "Religion" in any form.

Polls seem to have no meaning, just look who is President............ :D

Pollsters are still working from the old "script" as is the MSM

Not fond of the new reality they don't see or accept paradigm shifts too readily

It's like "fock fate", we're gonna dig in and wait for the inevitable wave to come

"Eat The Rich" SOS is the 'change' America wants? Right. Keep thinking that, Dems.

Finger to the wind, fact is it's FAR TOO premature to issue blue tsunami warnings!!

I agree Doka that polls have no meaning anymore. That being said, seems like both sides are gearing-up for the mid-terms and looks like they're going to start throwing the kitchen sinks

What Are Democrats Running On?

Post by Riddick » 07-23-2018 03:48 PM

The 2018 midterms are fast approaching, and Democrats are still crowing about the coming “blue wave.” If past is precedent, this is just media-fueled propaganda (remember Hillary Clinton’s 98 percent certainty of winning the presidency?).

Image

There's recent news about how Democrats lead Republicans in voter registrations by a significant margin. But the larger question is not whether Democratic voters will turn out, but what they are being asked to vote for. What does the Democratic Party stand for these days?

Image

A self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” (emphasis on “socialist”), the latest Democrat wunderkind, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is explicitly anti-capitalism.

Image

Then there’s the Democrats’ slobbering love affair with abortion giant Planned Parenthood, and their manufactured hysteria about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Image

On immigration as recently as 2009, Democrats at the highest levels proclaimed need for border enforcement. Now, the party’s platform is to “Abolish ICE” and embrace de facto open borders.

Image

Once reliable supporters, Democrats now largely eschew First Amendment rights. (At least for conservatives.)

Image

And in callous disregard for self defense, long since given up on the Second Amendment, they now call for its repeal.

Image

Nearly 70 percent of Americans identify as Christian (another 7 percent expressly identify with another faith), but Democrats notoriously booed God (at least, reference in their party platform) not once, but three times, at their 2012 national convention.

Image

And Democrats’ political hypocrisy is off the charts. Their latest Kabuki outrage is calling Trump a “traitor” for his statements following his Helsinki meeting with Putin. But they never blinked when President Obama sent $1.7 billion in cold hard cash to Iran -- one of the largest sponsors of terror on the planet.

Image

Democrats hate Donald Trump. But that is not a platform. Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders are all reportedly gearing up for a 2020 presidential run. She’ll “clean up the mess,” claims Warren

Image

What mess is she referring to? Record low unemployment for blacks and Hispanics? Massive job creation? Reduced taxes for taxpayers (but record receipts for government)? Defeat of ISIS in the Middle East? (Defeating its ideology is admittedly another matter.)

Image

Democratic politicians count on party loyalty from 3rd and 4th generation Democratic voters. But those voters - and others - are figuring out that the party left them a long time ago. The party, for its part, doesn’t seem to get this.

Image

Voters expressed their discontent with Democrats in the 2010, 2014 & 2016 elections. In response, Democrats are doubling down on their worst impulses, and the Pravda press is dutifully reporting that they’re really gonna clean up in November.

Image

No wonder the #WalkAway movement is gaining such steam.
