Starlink

Post by Doka » 04-20-2020 10:07 AM

We are being pushed in to our Future.........Rather , if we want to go OR NOT............

STARLINK SATELITES PHOTOGRAPHED FROM THE ISS: For the first time, SpaceX's controversial Starlink satellites have been photographed by astronauts onboard the International Space Station. Here they are, photobombing a display of aurora australis on April 13, 2020:

The ISS was flying over the southern Indian Ocean when the sighting occurred with cameras pointing generally south toward Antarctica. At the time, a minor stream of solar wind was buffeting Earth's magnetic field, sparking auroras over the frozen continent. The Starlink train stretches all the way from the twilight-blue horizon to the starry sky high above the aurora layer.

Dutch satellite expert Marco Langbroek identified the Starlink satellites and labeled the original NASA image. "These are all objects from the 17 February 2020 launch--- a.k.a. 'Starlink 4,'" Langbroek wrote in his blog.

Starlink is a new venture by SpaceX, which aims to surround Earth with satellites and beam affordable internet to remote locations all over the world. It is controversial because of its potential effect on the night sky. Just after launch, Starlink satellites easily can be seen with the unaided eye, swarming across stars and planets familiar to backyard astronomers. Scott Tucker of Tucson, Arizona, was photographing Venus on the evening of April 17th when this happened:

SpaceX Launches 60 More Starlinks April 22nd

Watch Launch, Deployment, First Stage Reentry and Landing

CAPE CANAVERAL - SpaceX launched its next batch of 60 satellites from launch complex 39A on Wednesday, April 22nd. This brings the total count to 420. The latest launch took place over the North Atlantic and placed the satellites into orbit only 15-minutes after launch. This was the 4th trip for the Falcon's first stage booster which returned safely to its landing on a SpaceX drone ship waiting off the Florida coast.
The project is designed to enable high-bandwidth, low-latency internet services for many countries worldwide. SpaceX intends to place nearly 1600 satellites in orbits at heights of 341-miles above the Earth. Motivation for this project includes vying for an estimated $16 billion dollars from the FCC for improvements to rural internet services which are intended to start this year with expansion globally through 2021.

If you want good news, here it is.......You just may not really know it for sure, for awhile yet.

Planet’s next six satellites will launch on upcoming SpaceX Starlink missions

by Sandra Erwin — May 13, 2020

Six SkySat satellites will be evenly split across two Starlink launches on Falcon 9.

WASHINGTON — Planet announced that its next six SkySat satellites will fly to low Earth orbit on SpaceX Starlink missions scheduled later this summer.

The six SkySats will be evenly split across two launches on SpaceX’s Falcon 9, Planet said May 13 in a news release. Planet’s spacecraft will be rideshare payloads on the Starlink launches.

The first three — SkySats 16-18 — will launch on SpaceX’s ninth Starlink mission expected to launch in June. The next three — SkySats 19-21 — will launch later this summer. Both missions will lift off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The deployment of six more SkySats would add coverage to Planet’s fleet of 15 currently in operation. These remote sensing satellites collect high-resolution imagery, a capability that the company needs to compete in the national security market. With its new satellites in a lower altitude, Planet will be able to offer 50-centimeter-resolution imagery from its SkySat constellation, an improvement from the 72-centimeter imagery provided by older satellites.

SkySats 1-15 operate in sun synchronous orbits. SkySats 16-21 will operate at a “mid-inclination” orbit of 53 degrees, complementing the sun synchronous fleet, the company said. ‘They will offer more targeted coverage, rapid revisits and raw image capacity in key geographic regions.”

SpaceX launches 58 Starlink, 3 SkySat satellites from Florida

June 13 (UPI) -- SpaceX has expanded the company's historic Starlink constellation by launching 58 more satellites from Florida on Saturday morning.

The payload lifted off on time aboard a Falcon 9 rocket at 5:21 a.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, which is adjacent to Kennedy Space Center.

The launch was the ninth regular Starlink mission, boosting the number of those communications satellites in orbit to 538 -- the most ever for any such constellation.

The launch was unique in that SpaceX planned to put sunshades on all the Starlink satellites as part of the company's effort to make them less visible from the ground.

Astronomers and other sky gazers have complained that bright reflections from the satellites can ruin observations of the heavens.

The rocket also carried three SkySat satellites for the San Francisco-based space company Planet, formerly branded as Planet Labs, representing the first launch for SpaceX's SmallSat rideshare program.

Planet was founded in 2010 by ex-NASA scientists Will Marshall, Robbie Schingler and Chris Boshuizen, with a goal to use space to enhance life on Earth.
