Words and actions have consequences

Post by kbot » 01-15-2021 11:38 AM

The Left, The Far Left, "ANTIFA"..........

THOSE are not the issue, according to major GOP donors.

No - according to them, THE GOP ITSELF is the issue :D

Republicans scramble to contain fallout as donors distance themselves

Republicans are scrambling to contain the fallout as major donors freeze political contributions and distance themselves from lawmakers who voted to overturn the Electoral College results.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who voted to reject electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania, has been calling existing donors trying to calm nerves, saying that — despite the riot at the Capitol that was an effort to impede the transition of power — he and his party can work with the incoming Biden administration.

But many big-name corporations and businesses have indicated they’re in no rush to resume contributions to Republicans who objected to the presidential election results.

McCarthy made a round of calls to donors on Wednesday, according to multiple sources. At least one call was made up of friendly major donors who largely didn’t push back. The leader's remarks seemed more scripted than not. He took three questions and then had to run to the airport, one source said.

“He’s trying to calm down donors. I think he’s trying to assure them that they want to work with President Biden and the vote did not mean that they won’t support Biden initiatives, like infrastructure, debt ceiling, COVID relief,” a Republican donor said.

Corporations are targeting the 147 GOP lawmakers who voted to challenge the 2020 election results in Arizona or Pennsylvania last week, even after the deadly attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.

One lobbyist described McCarthy's calls to donors: “I would equate it to trying to get a plane out of a spin, trying to level the wings.”

But many corporations are not just questioning the GOP’s ability to work with Democrats, they are trying to distance themselves from the ugly scenes in D.C. last Wednesday.

Comcast was the top corporate donor to McCarthy’s leadership PAC and campaign committee, with its individuals and PAC donating $87,600 in 2020. The company is now suspending contributions to lawmakers who voted against the election results, saying that the violence at the U.S. Capitol last week was “appalling.”

Blue Cross Blue Shield is also a top donor to McCarthy’s leadership PAC and campaign committee, and its individuals and PAC gave them more than $62,200. The health insurance giant is now also suspending contributions to lawmakers who “voted to undermine our democracy.”

“I think he’s trying to figure out how to lead in a very difficult circumstance,” the Republican donor said. “He’s got pressure on the left, he’s got pressure from the center, he’s got pressure from the right and from his members. He’s doing better than anyone else could do in the conference.”

Individuals and the corporate PAC at Amazon gave McCarthy’s leadership PAC and campaign committee more than $43,100. Now, Amazon is pausing donations to lawmakers who voted against the results, calling it an “unacceptable attempt to undermine a legitimate democratic process.”

McCarthy isn’t the only Republican making calls in an attempt to ease tensions.

Republican lawmakers, both from leadership and rank-and-file, those who voted to overturn the election results and those who didn't, have been making calls to feel out the mood of corporate donors, according to multiple sources.

Republicans are asking lobbyists about the temperature of their clients, while the list of companies saying they won’t donate to the lawmakers who voted against the election results is growing.

Think Faux will report this???

Officer describes mob during Capitol siege: 'Kill him with his own gun'

D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone described what he encountered when he engaged the mob that sieged the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, saying he heard someone screaming to "kill him" with his own gun.

Fanone was one of several officers who spoke to CNN in interviews shared by the network Thursday. He described what it was like to go up against the mob that day, saying he was stripped of his gear, his spare ammunition, had his police radio ripped off his chest and had his badge stolen.

"Some guys started getting a hold of my gun and they were screaming out, 'Kill him with his own gun,’ ” Fanone said.

Fanone, a narcotic detective, told CNN that he raced to the Capitol with his partners to help officers who were being pushed back by rioters. At one point, he said he thought about using deadly force because he was overpowered by the mob but decided against it, thinking he would be overpowered again.

“So, the other option I thought of was to try to appeal to somebody's humanity. And I just remember yelling out that I have kids. And it seemed to work,” he told the news outlet.

He said a group within the rioters protected him until help arrived. Of that group, Fanone said, “Thank you ... but f--- you for being there.”

Five people died as a result of the riot — including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after getting hit in the head with a fire extinguisher.

Thanks Trump!!!!!!!!!

Trust between lawmakers reaches all-time low after Capitol riots

Hefty fines to enforce the use of masks and metal detectors to enter the House chamber. Censure resolutions. And a call for investigating whether some lawmakers aided insurrectionists.

Trust between the two parties has reached an all-time low — and it’s raising questions about how they can possibly work together on much of anything as the new session of Congress begins when some lawmakers don’t even feel safe around each other.

Much of the physical damage in the Capitol from last week’s attack by a violent mob egged on by President Trump has since been repaired: The tear gas residue and garbage in the hallowed halls are gone, and new glass panes were installed in the entrance to the Speaker’s Lobby, where a rioter was fatally shot.

But the emotional trauma still lingers, with daily reminders of how much things have changed from just a week ago.

The Capitol complex now resembles a police state, with thousands of heavily armed National Guard troops patrolling the grounds.

“How could I feel comfortable thinking that someone that I’m in a committee room with or could be sitting across the aisle from, or something of that nature, helped plan an insurrection in the United States Capitol? How can I do that? I mean, how can anyone do that?” asked House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.).

Tensions flared again this week when numerous GOP lawmakers refused to adhere to new safety measures for the House chamber, prompting Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to enact extraordinary rules that would levy thousands of dollars in fines against those who don’t comply.

Some lawmakers shaken after last week’s attack on the Capitol are worried by colleagues who may be carrying guns — one Republican, Rep. Madison Cawthorn (N.C.), confirmed this week that he was armed during the riot. Another first-term Republican, Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colo.), has been adamant about wanting to carry her gun on the Capitol grounds.

Lawmakers can keep guns in their offices but are barred from carrying them on the House floor.

Then there’s the concern that some Republicans may have helped incite the mob along with Trump to try to stop Congress from ratifying President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.

Prosecutors say Capitol rioters sought 'to capture and assassinate elected officials'

Federal prosecutors are now alleging that some of the individuals who stormed the U.S. Capitol during last week's deadly riot sought to harm elected officials.

The new detail came in a court filing Thursday, in which federal prosecutors in Arizona pushed to keep Jacob Anthony Chansley, known as “QAnon Shaman,” in detention, arguing that he was a flight risk.

Chansley — who was seen wearing fur and horns in the Capitol— was charged last week with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Prosecutors wrote that “strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States Government.”

The memorandum states that Chansley left a note for Vice President Pence at the Senate chamber dais that read “it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming.”

When asked what the note meant, authorities say Chansley went on a “lengthy diatribe” describing Pence and other U.S. leaders “as infiltrators involved in various types of wrongdoing.”

Think VP Pence might be just a little pissed???????

What's that expression......... "Be careful what you wish for"???????

Former GOP congressman says he's leaving party: 'This has become a cult'

Former Oklahoma GOP Congressman Mickey Edwards said that he is leaving his party because it has become a “cult” led by President Trump.

Edward was critical of Republicans questioning the results of the presidential election, and of Republicans who voted to throw out Electoral College votes of two battleground states after a mob invaded the Capitol building last week to stop their work.

“This has become a cult. It’s no longer a political party. It’s a cult,” Edwards told Oklahoma’s News 4 on Thursday. "It’s the kind of a cult that when the leader of the cult does anything, no matter what it is, or how awful it is, they voted.

“They voted to question the election results even after people came into the Capitol, tried to kill them and killed a police officer who was trying to protect them. And they did that.”

One Capitol Police officer was killed during the violence last week. After police gained control of the building again, work continued on the Electoral College counting. A majority in the House GOP then voted to throw out the Electoral College votes of Arizona and Pennsylvania.

Edwards served as a Republican congressman in the House for 16 years, from 1977 to 1993. He has been a critic of Trump's since Trump’s campaign started back in 2016.

Edwards was one of thirty former congressmen who signed a letter saying Trump was unfit for office.

Nikki Haley on Capitol riot: Trump 'badly wrong with his words'

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley condemned President Trump in a speech to Republican National Committee members Thursday, calling his word choice as rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday "badly wrong," Politico reports.

"President Trump has not always chosen the right words," Haley, who served under Trump, said during her remarks. "He was wrong with his words in Charlottesville, and I told him so at the time. He was badly wrong with his words yesterday."

The former South Carolina governor said the president's consistent efforts to undermine the election results will be frowned upon in the future.

"And it wasn’t just his words," she added. "His actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history."

Talk radio company orders hosts to stop suggesting election was stolen from Trump

A talk radio company that employs some of the nation’s most popular conservative radio hosts has issued a memo barring talent from spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election.

“We need to help induce national calm NOW,” wrote an executive with Cumulus Media in a Wednesday directive, the same day as the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, according to The Washington Post.

Brian Philips, the company’s executive vice president, went on to say Cumulus and its program syndication branch, Westwood One, “will not tolerate any suggestion that the election has not ended. The election has been resolved and there are no alternate acceptable ‘paths’. ”

“If you transgress this policy, you can expect to separate from the company immediately,” he added.

Cumulus hosts include Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro and Dan Bongino. Rush Limbaugh, who is broadcast on numerous Cumulus stations but syndicated by Premiere Networks, is not subject to the directive.

It remains to be seen whether hosts like Levin who have built a strong personal brand will abide by the memo and whether Cumulus would be willing to take major disciplinary action if they do not. As recently as Thursday, a day after the riot, Levin seemingly denied responsibility for inciting the unrest, saying: “I’m not stirring up a damn thing. Everything I say is based on principle and mission. Everything is based on liberty, family, faith, the Constitution. ... My enemies and my critics can’t say the same.”

Colorado officials pen letter requesting probe into Boebert's actions

Some Colorado officials have sent a letter to congressional leadership requesting a probe into Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) actions leading up to and on the day of the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to multiple reports.

In the letter published by KUSA and first obtained by The Steamboat Pilot and Today, the officials across Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, which Boebert represents, raised “deep concern about her actions leading up to and during the protests that turned into a violent deadly mob.”

Boebert has faced backlash and calls to resign over tweeting out the location of lawmakers as the Capitol was being breached. Some GOP lawmakers voiced concerns over Boebert’s tweets in a heated call on Monday.

“Representative Boebert’s actions, including her statements on the floor immediately preceding the insurrection and her social media posts leading up to the riots were irresponsible and reprehensible,” the officials wrote.

The letter says the congresswoman’s speech and tweets encouraged the “mob mentality” of her followers, as well as those who directly participated in the mob.

The officials asked for an investigation and to follow through with any appropriate disciplinary action. The lawmakers also said they reached out to Boebert directly and have not received a response.

“Our bigger concern is that hate groups are proliferating in America and they are heavily armed. We request that you create a Congressional panel to thoroughly investigate these groups. They pose a real threat to American democracy, to our communities and to our residents,” the lawmakers wrote.

McCarthy won't back effort to oust Cheney

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will not support an effort by a group of House conservatives to oust House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her leadership role, a spokesman for the California Republican confirmed on Thursday.

Cheney has come under fire for her decision to support impeaching President Trump for inciting last week's riot at the U.S. Capitol that left five dead, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

Prosecutor: Capitol rioter aimed 'to take hostages'

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A retired Air Force officer who was part of the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol last week carried plastic zip-tie handcuffs because he intended “to take hostages,” a prosecutor said in a Texas court on Thursday.

He means to take hostages. He means to kidnap, restrain, perhaps try, perhaps execute members of the U.S. government,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Weimer said of retired Lt. Col. Larry Rendall Brock Jr. without providing specifics.
