The adults are finally in the house..........

Post by kbot » 01-21-2021 06:54 AM

So, after four years of, well, Trump, the Biden Administration is starting to go through the weeds and detritus left by the previous administration and, well, when it came to to COVID-19 response by the Trump administration, did you ever feel that, well, they may just be a little bit over their heads?

Well, now we know why.........

Biden is inheriting a nonexistent Covid-19 vaccine plan from Trump administration, sources say

(CNN)Newly sworn in President Joe Biden and his advisers are inheriting no coronavirus vaccine distribution plan to speak of from the Trump administration, sources tell CNN, posing a significant challenge for the new White House.

The Biden administration has promised to try to turn the Covid-19 pandemic around and drastically speed up the pace of vaccinating Americans against the virus. But in the immediate hours following Biden being sworn into office on Wednesday, sources with direct knowledge of the new administration's Covid-related work told CNN one of the biggest shocks that the Biden team had to digest during the transition period was what they saw as a complete lack of a vaccine distribution strategy under former President Donald Trump, even weeks after multiple vaccines were approved for use in the United States

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/21/politics ... index.html

Let THAT sink in for a bit. Nearly one year later, and these folks didn't even develop a plan.............

After the "No-Plan COVID Plan" of the previous administration, it's nice to see that Biden is getting to work and not wasting time:

Biden targets Trump's legacy with first-day executive actions

(CNN)President Joe Biden is finalizing 17 executive moves just hours after his inauguration Wednesday, moving faster and more aggressively to dismantle his predecessor's legacy than any other modern president.

Biden is signing a flurry of executive orders, memorandums and directives to agencies, his first steps to address the coronavirus pandemic and undo some of former President Donald Trump's signature policies.

"There's no time to start like today," Biden told reporters in the Oval Office as he began signing a stack of orders and memoranda. "I'm going to start by keeping the promises I made to the American people."

With the stroke of a pen, Biden has halted funding for the construction of Trump's border wall, reversed his travel ban targeting largely Muslim countries and embraced progressive policies on the environment and diversity that Trump spent four years blocking.

Biden also reversed several of Trump's attempts to withdraw from international agreements, beginning the process of rejoining the Paris climate accord and halting the United States' departure from the World Health Organization -- where Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, will lead the US delegation.

His first action was to impose a mask mandate on federal property, a break in approach to dealing with the pandemic from Trump, who repeatedly downplayed the virus. Biden also installed a coronavirus response coordinator to oversee the White House's efforts to distribute vaccines and medical supplies.

The WHO Finally Updates Its COVID-19 Testing Policy... One Hour After Biden's Inauguration
Today, within an hour of Joe Biden being inaugurated and signing an executive order mandating masks on all federal property, the WHO sent out a notice to lab professionals using the PCR test. It said:
WHO guidance Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 states that careful interpretation of weak positive results is needed (1). The cycle threshold (Ct) needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load. Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different NAT technology.
This translates to “in the absence of symptoms, a high Ct value means you are highly unlikely to become ill or get anyone else sick in the absence of very recent exposure to an infected person.” Dr. Fauci knew this in July when he said that tests with a Ct above 35 were likely picking up viral debris or dead virus. Even at a Ct of 35, the incidence of virus samples that could replicate is very low, according to Jaafar et al. The only state I know that requires reporting the Ct with every test is Florida, which started this policy in December.
Biden Taps Transgender Health Official With Horrifying COVID-19 Nursing Home Record
The WHO went on, stating:

Most PCR assays are indicated as an aid for diagnosis, therefore, health care providers must consider any result in combination with timing of sampling, specimen type, assay specifics, clinical observations, patient history, confirmed status of any contacts, and epidemiological information.

In short, a positive PCR test in the absence of symptoms means nothing at a Ct of higher than 30, according to the experts interviewed by the New York Times and according to Jaafar et al. Yet positive tests is the number CNN loves flashing on the screen. If the percentage found by the Times in August holds, there have been approximately 2.43 million actual cases to date, not 24.3 million. There is also no way to calculate the deaths from COVID-19 rather than deaths with some dead viral debris in the nostrils.
What I have referred to as the “casedemic” since September will be magically solved just in time for Joe Biden to look like a hero. For doing absolutely nothing. Do not tell me there is not a politicized deep state in these health agencies. Do not ever tell me I need to listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci again. And every business owner who has been ruined because of lockdowns due to a high number of “cases” should be livid. Any parent whose child has lost a year of school should be furious.
None of this was for your health. It was to get rid of Orange Man Bad.

Sad that this is how things were......

Dr. Anthony Fauci says he feels liberated to speak freely about science, risk of Covid under Biden

Fauci returned to the White House briefing room Thursday for the first time in the new administration.

WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the government’s top public health experts, signaled that he feels free to speak honestly about Covid-19 now that former President Donald Trump is out of office.

In his first news briefing since President Joe Biden was sworn in, Fauci said that the new administration was committed to being "completely transparent, open and honest," a sharp break from the Trump White House, when Fauci said he often felt there would be repercussions for speaking honestly about the pandemic.

"It was very clear that there were things said, be it regarding things like hydroxychloroquine and other things like that, that really was uncomfortable because they were not based in scientific fact," Fauci told reporters, speaking about the Trump administration.

"The idea that you can get up and talk about what you know, what the evidence is, what the science is," Fauci continued, "it is somewhat of a liberating feeling."

It is indeed sad that Fauci could not speak as a scientist. He was muzzled for political BS and it was as obvious as the nose on your face. I had to stop watching his so called news briefs as it enraged me that people could be so stupid as to put up with the crap.

Lawyer for 'QAnon Shaman' says Capitol rioter regrets being 'duped' by Trump
Jacob Chansley's attorney said former President Trump "invited" his supporters to storm the Capitol.
Vandana Rambaran
By Vandana Rambaran | Fox News

The lawyer for the so-called "QAnon Shaman" who stormed the U.S. Capitol shirtless and wearing a horned bearskin headdress said his client regrets being "duped" by former President Donald Trump, and that the former president "invited" his client and thousands of other supporters to the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Albert Watkins, the attorney for Jacob Anthony Chansley, did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment Saturday but told KSDK-TV that his client "regrets very, very much having not just been duped by the President, but by being in a position where he allowed that duping to put him in a position to make decisions he should not have made."

Watkins argued that Chansley was practically "invited" by Trump to the Capitol to protest the results of the presidential election and goaded by Trump's rhetoric to take extreme action to "Stop the Steal."

"Let's roll the tape. Let's roll the months of lies, and misrepresentations and horrific innuendo and hyperbolic speech by our president designed to inflame, enrage, motivate," Watkins told the news outlet.

"What's really curious is the reality that our president, as a matter of public record, invited these individuals, as President, to walk down to the Capitol with him," he added.

With friends like this...............

Trump's pardons may be poorly worded enough to leave some people on the hook

On his way out of office, President Donald Trump issued more than 100 pardons, mostly to his personal friends and political allies.

A number of those pardons were for people convicted of federal crimes linked to the Mueller investigation — including his former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and advisors Roger Stone and George Papadopoulos.

Trump was sure to malign Mueller's investigation in his pardon notices. The press release for Manafort's pardon, for example, said he was "prosecuted in the course of Special Counsel Mueller's investigation, which was premised on the Russian collusion hoax."

Though the president's pardon powers are broad, a number of prosecutors and experts on clemency laws don't believe those people are off the hook just yet.

Trump pardoned Manafort for his specific convictions. It's much more narrowly tailored than the pardon Trump gave to Flynn, for "any and all offenses arising out of the facts and circumstances" brought by Robert Mueller's office.

Read more: Joe Biden is hiring about 4,000 political staffers to work in his administration. Here's how 3 experts say you can boost your chances of getting one of those jobs.

It's also narrower than the pardon President Gerald Ford gave to former President Richard Nixon, which covered a broad timeframe.

"It says 'for his conviction' and that's it. It's just for the crimes for which he was convicted," Kimberly Wehle, a University of Baltimore law professor, told Insider. "That is a different wording than Richard Nixon received under his pardon, which is for 'all conceivable crimes.'"

Wehle, who worked under Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr in the Justice Department, said presidents must specify the specific crimes being pardoned.

Beyond that, prosecutors can always try to bring different charges using the same set of underlying facts, she said.

The same point was brought up by Andrew Weissman, Mueller's second-in-command, in an article for the blog Just Security on Wednesday. Weissman argued that while Flynn's pardon left "no room for now holding Flynn to account for his past felonious conduct," the pardon for Manafort was full of holes.

"Specifically, the pardon is solely for the crimes of conviction ... That leaves numerous crimes as to which Manafort can still be prosecuted, as in Virginia there were 10 hung counts," Weissman wrote. "In Washington, the situation is even more wide open. In that district, Manafort pleaded to a superseding information containing two conspiracy charges, while the entire underlying indictment — containing numerous crimes from money laundering, to witness tampering, to violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act — now remains open to prosecution as there was no conviction for those charges."

There's a place and a time for everything. But, this wasn't it.........

Another GOP Lawmaker Attempted To Bring A Gun Into House Chamber; Capitol Police Investigating

U.S. Capitol Police have confirmed to multiple outlets that they are investigating an incident in which Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) reportedly tried to take a concealed gun onto the house floor on Thursday but was stopped by security when he set off metal detectors—the latest in a series of GOP members of Congress defying the security protocols put in place.
US-HEALTH-VIRUS-POLITICS-CONGRESS-HEARING

Key Facts

Harris set off a recently installed magnetometer as he attempted to enter the House chamber, and a firearm was detected on his side, concealed by his suit coat.

According to a HuffPost congressional reporter who witnessed the incident, police refused to let Harris in, and "the officer signaled a security agent that Harris had a gun on him by motioning toward his own firearm."

Harris then reportedly asked Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.) to take the weapon from him so he could go vote, but Katko told Harris he didn’t have “a license” and refused to hold the gun.

At that point, Harris exited the area and returned several minutes later, and was allowed to enter the House floor after he did not set off the magnetometer.

Harris's chief of staff, Bryan Shuy, sent out a statement Thursday night declaring that “for security reasons, the Congressman never confirms whether he nor anyone else he’s with are carrying a firearm for self-defense,” because “his and his family’s lives have been threatened by someone who has been released awaiting trial.”
Crucial Quote:

“As a matter of public record, he has a Maryland Handgun Permit. And the congressman always complies with the House metal detectors and wanding,” said Shuy in the statement. "The Congressman has never carried a firearm on the House floor."

Key Background:

Following the deadly attack on the Capitol building earlier this month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ordered that metal detectors be installed, which angered several GOP members. Last Tuesday, according to The Hill, Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) yelled at the police operating the detectors, claiming they were “creating a problem” that they did “not understand the ramifications of,” and told them to “get back” and “don’t touch me.” Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) called the detectors “****.” Members are allowed to carry unloaded firearms in the halls and on Capitol grounds, including the Capitol building, and in their offices as long as all ammo is separately compartmentalized. However, guns are not allowed into either the House or Senate chambers. In early January, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) released a digital ad declaring her right to carry a Glock on the Capitol’s grounds. "Even though I now work in one of the most liberal cities in America, I refused to give up my rights, especially my Second Amendment rights,” Boebert says in the ad. The HuffPost reported Thursday that Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Rick Allen (R-Ga.) and Boebert all refused to be wanded down after setting off the magnetometer.

Actually Riddick, Trump was impeached both times while he was in office....... The Senate didn't convict (separate action) on the first, and the court's out on the second.

But, he was impeached. Twice. While in office.............
