Don't "prevent" Jewel Weed/ the lowly Plantain herb!

Post by Malaria_Kidd II » 07-04-2016 11:51 PM

I don't know if I was off focus while driving in the late/early hours but I swore I heard a Coast guest mention Plantain to George Noory. He pronounced it "plant chE an". :)

One common name is Jewel Weed. If you live off the grid even a little bit and try your best to let Mum Nature return her many f(l)avors to you for the taking. You'd call this weed a jewel too! :D

Whatever you do don't kill it or call it a weed. The definition of a weed is, "Any plant growing out of place". Or maybe this medicinal freebee is growing all over your place! That's your smiling face once you see this.

Enjoy the read that Native American's and early pioneers knew about for centuries.

Bookmark this'n for sure!

Also being higher than spinach in vitamin C use dandelion (hint of bitter) leaves in salads, also it's roots raw or dried, yellow flowers fried and stems in salads are all edible too! :hugesmile :hugesmile

:P Be mindful where you've sprayed 'dem damn weeds last week as you might be eating them today!

Hi MK11, when I read this, the 1st thing that came to my mind was Plantain, which is in the banana family. But, I learned something new re: Jewel Weed, it sure looks familiar , have to pay more attention to my weed pulling. :D

Well Doka something new is something enjoyed most times. I've wanted to have a deep wood splinter to try a plantain mulched/ wet bandage to see it get raised right out of my skin.  Just joking but it must work wonders for slivers of metal shavings, glass fragments so tiny and wood slivers all so painful!

It's lays so low to the ground when we mow it mostly gets missed completely except when it's 7-8" tall and narrow stalks are flowering. :D I've actually mowed around large leaved dandelions saved for salads and white clover patches left for the honeybees.

I really enjoy working and learning about herbs always fun to learn about the new(to me) that are right under my nose. I have several herb books, to help identify and the usage.

Are you sure it wasn't about bananas? HA!

It might have been about bananas. I was not aware of plantain being in the banana family of plant species! That being noted by you means it's a jewel for our health and well being. So no Roundup spraying and no mowing if your mowers' blades can barely reach low enough to cut it!

The plantain/jewel weed I view in the yard is has a dark green lobed leaf X 3 or 4 leaves. Maybe we are not zeroed in on the same plant. :?

Being true survivalists Native American's used trial and error picking out the good plants to benefit their health and nutrition. Any errors in taste testing may have resulted in a shallow unmarked grave!
