Hotel Backpackers
Is there internet in Rio Dulce?
We have an internet café in our Hotel Backpackers in Rio Dulce. Volunteers that work in the orphanage (20 minutes by boat from the town) get a chance once or twice a week to "go out" and come to the hotel or go to the town. It gives you the chance to check your e-mail and have a drink and a good meal.

That stuff is rocket fuel:eek:
Buenos dias from Rio Dulce everyone
Sorry it's been such a long time, but I've been pretty busy out at Casa Guatemala. So much stuff to fix and build.
On top of that we are having an epidemic of malaria. Of the roughly 250 kids, voluteers and locals we have 24 reported cases at the moment.
Your truly is taking his Chloroquine and is just fine so far.
I did have a bout with a gastro-intestinal infection a few weeks ago that put me in the hospital in Morales overnight, but only because at the time we thought it was my appendix. Required me to be man-lifted to the launch, a 20 minute boat ride from Casa to Backpackers in Rio Dulce, then a 1 hour ambulance ride to Morales. Good thing it was close by.......
I hope everyone is doing well and I hope to be checking in a little more often.
I have to go to Belize in a few days as my 90 day Visa in Guatemala is almost up. Hard to believe that time has past so quickly.
So until next time, stay safe me amigos

Hey, megman! Great hearing from you and thanks for the update. That gastro-intestinal infection you had sounds pretty bad if it was like appendicitis. Take care of yourself and have some fun. What do you do for entertainment there or do you have any time? Do you get news and plenty of good food and drink, etc? Ganja? You know, all the important stuff.
"Question everything, especially your media and their motives. -Me
Ya, the GI thing was pretty bad.
Started with major chills, then the pain hit my lower right abdomen and temp went through the roof. All signs pointed to a burst appendix. Fortunately it wasn't. Was pretty scary for awhile.
We pretty much entertain ourselves at CG. Cards, guitar/sing-a-longs, campfires occasionally and parties for those departing.
Our normal runs into town are Wed and Sat nights when we rip loose at Hotel Backpackers. We have a great pizza joint in Fronteras AND a fantastic Chinese restaurant too!!!
I normally get into town more than others during the day to pick up lumber and other supplies as needed.
If anyone is interested in helping out in anyway here is list of things that are always in demand:
Clothing
Clothes are always useful, ages 0-14 years, especially shoes, socks and underclothes. Please make sure anything you send is in good condition and appropriate (no sweaters please!).
Other
Spanish language children’s books, anything that can be used for craft work (e.g. beads, thread for bracelets etc.), educational toys for kindergarten ages, face paints, powder paint for the school.
The address is:
Casa Guatemala
Rio Dulce, El Relleno, Izbal
Guatemala
Anything at all is appreciated
