Energy Insanity

Post by Riddick » 10-03-2022 11:32 AM

Edited & Excerpted from Francis Menton's blog post:

As a matter of what we are told is the highest moral urgency, essentially the entire developed part of the world is currently embarked on a crash program to eliminate fossil fuels from the energy system. But will the coming fossil-fuel-free system actually work to provide the energy we need to run our modern economies?

There are very substantial reasons to think that big problems are inevitable, the main one being that wind and solar generators don’t produce anything most of the time, and can’t be ramped up on demand at a time of need.

So surely, there must be multiple small to medium-scale demonstration projects around the world showing exactly how this future system using only sources like wind, solar, hydro and/or storage.can be achieved, and how much it will cost?

Actually, and incredibly, no. In the real world, any serious major transformation of the energy system would begin with a functioning demonstration project to establish feasibility and cost. But not in the fantasy world of the climate cult.

As noted, there is no working demonstration project anywhere in the world. Nor is there any in development or under construction — unless you count the entire country of Germany or State of California as a “demonstration project.”

There isn’t even a demonstration project that supplies just the electricity sector of any economy (typically about 25-35% of final energy usage) with the energy it needs free of fossil fuels. Indeed, there isn’t anything remotely close.

The closest thing to a demonstration project in the world, on the island of El Hierro, one of the Canary Islands that is part of Spain, has failed disastrously.

El Hierro has a population of about 10,000. Beginning in about 2010, they built a system of some five massive wind turbines, plus a large pumped-storage reservoir in the top of an extinct volcano that happened to be on the island.

The system was built with capacity of close to double peak electricity usage on the island, with the idea when wind blew at full strength the excess capacity would be used to pump water to the reservoir, to be released later at times of calm.

The system opened to great fanfare in 2014. On August 20, 2015 the Spanish daily El Pais reported that the island “aspires to energy self-sufficiency to provide light and water from 100%-renewable sources.”

But El Hierro has never gotten anywhere near energy self-sufficiency from its wind/storage system in the eight years of operation. Fortunately, they have retained a diesel generator that can provide full backup when the wind/storage system provides nothing, which is about half the time.

They don’t even pretend to deal with the majority of energy consumption on the island that is not electrified, including automobiles, air transport, and agriculture. But even as to the minority of energy consumption that is electrified, they struggle to get to 50% from the wind/storage system when averaged over a year.

With that as the closest thing to a demonstration project, before any kind of replacement system has been shown to work, in their boundless hubris politicians gleefully suppress production and distribution of fossil fuels thinking that they can order up the energy transition and it will happen because it has been ordered.

And what happens when the proposed replacements for the fossil fuels turn out not to be able to do the job of keeping the economy running? Europe is about to show us the answer to that question this winter.

I will save you from my postings just how bad things are on ALL fronts! I can feel the "Cringes" from here. I got into some heavy reading this morning, not intended, like you all, some things I rather not know. And I am sure now, many in the World Know, but, simply do not have the Power to stop it. Our lives our country and our World is being changed beyond recognition. If this course is followed much longer, a nuclear bomb is the Least of our worries for the "Misery" that has already been played, and the "Misery" that is to come.

IMHO the course we're on is one that is due in large to "leadership" afflicted with tunnel vision & megalomania the likes of which can only end badly. But so what if common folk suffer when the sh!t hits the fan? Elites don't make "misteaks"...

The Coming Green Electricity Nightmare

Edited & Excepted from Paul Driessen's WUWT article:

The Green Lobby and its legislator and regulator friends really seem to think they can just pass laws and earmark subsidies, demanding energy transformations by 2050 – and it will just happen. They simply assume the necessary raw materials will also just be there.

Wind & sunshine are free, clean, green, renewable and sustainable. But harnessing this diffuse, unreliable, weather-dependent energy to power civilization is definitely not. Not one of these luminaries has given a moment’s thought to – much less attempted to calculate – what this net-zero transition would require:

How many millions of wind turbines, billions of solar panels, billions of EV and backup batteries, millions of transformers, thousands of miles of transmission lines – sprawling across how many millions of acres of wildlife habitat, scenic and agricultural lands, and people’s once-placid backyards?

How many billions of tons of copper, steel, aluminum, nickel, cobalt, lithium, concrete, rare earths, plastics and other materials? How many trillions of tons of ores and overburden? How many mines, across how many more acres – with how much fossil fuel energy to operate the enormous mining equipment, and how much toxic air and water pollution emitted in the process? Where will it be done?

For one example, for just NY state peak summer needs alone (30,000 megawatts) 2,500 680-foot offshore turbines would require nearly 110,000 tons of copper – which would require mining, crushing, processing and refining 25 million tons of copper ore … after removing some 40 million tons of rock to reach the ore bodies. Multiply that times 50 states – and the entire world – plus transmission lines.

How many processing plants and factories would be needed? How much fossil fuel power to run those massive operations? How many thousands of square miles of toxic waste pits all over world under zero to minimal environmental standards, workplace safety standards, child and slave labor rules?

How many dead birds, bats, and endangered and other species would be killed off all across the world – from mineral extraction activities, wind turbine blades, solar panels blanketing thousands of square miles of wildlife habitats, and transmission lines impacting still more land? Where will we dump the green energy trash?

Not only do the luminaries and activists ignore these issues and refuse to address them, they actively suppress, cancel, censor and deplatform any questions and discussions about them. They collude with Big Tech companies and news agencies, which too often seem all too happy to assist.

The hard reality is, there are not, will not be, & cannot be, enough mines, metals and minerals on the entire planet – to reach any “net-zero” US economy by 2050, much less a global “green” economy.

And yet we’re supposed to go along with Green Energy schemes – as we did with masks, school lockdowns & vaccinations to stop Covid – because our government, media & “public interest” groups insist that we “follow the science,” on which there can be no doubt (certainly none permitted) that we face a “manmade climate crisis” that threatens the very existence of humanity and “the only Earth we have.”

Because we have to destroy the planet (with green energy) in order to save it (from climate change).

It’s time to short-circuit this electricity nightmare, by asking these questions, demanding answers, and ending the notion that governments can simply issue edicts and compel reality to change in response.

As sad as it is Doka and Riddick your posts were revealing scary lines of a new Woke reality!

Did #4 6 actually regret anything he's done to date. No!

With big grins 😁 today he and his BJ-VP met across a very expensive black walnut table to congratulate one another on their accomplishments over the last two years!😑

Authored by Tom Harris via RealClear Wire,

At long last, the Bid en administration is admitting what experts have always known: reckless energy policies have disastrous consequences.
