Sleep Poem

Post by USSGoblin » 04-30-2008 06:54 PM

I wrote this years ago. Back in 1999

Another night of tossing and turning,
Pillow feels too hard, punch and pound.
Now it's soft and round.
Now the bed is too stiff. Sleep I am Yearning.
On mattress I pray, Clock pounding like a Jack Hammer
Every sound I hear, even the dust hitting the ground
Pound Pound Pound
A symphony of stillness screams,
Silence is ever so loud.
I wish I was floating on a cloud.
I want to get to sleep
I need to get to sleep.
As darkness dissolves into dawn,
I rev up and don't know why.
I walk the halls like a zombie, why.
Computer comes to life.
Colors of the screen start to dance
hey its windows 98
Waiting for AOL to connect
Blessed slumber…finally comes,
By the time it connected I was asleep.
Waiting was the key. I fade finally.
Pretend to wait, for what who cares.
That's the answer for me.

Wonderful. You made the reader feel like they were there with you. I hope you keep up your writing. It is a great gift.

Hi Raymond,

I have a tough time falling asleep myself. I'll think of your poem tonight as I try to drift off, smile, and say a little prayer for our Ship's own Goblin. :)

Post more, please!

well the archives can be found on my ussgoblin site, upper right.
Unfortunately I did not archive everything when I was writing a column for the NSRO Gazette. They closed up around 2005. But be warned, it is political commentary, not poems.

You can find some uplifting spiritual stuff I have written here: http://www.ussgoblin.com/winnersandwarriors.html
and here: http://www.ussgoblin.com/winnersandwarriorsXmas.html

here is one example of a prayer I wrote in 2000:
A prayer of hope and thanks by Raymond

Dear Lord:

Please guide me through the day, allow me to see the beauty of your goodness in this world. Thank you for my life and the gifts that fuel my joy, Thank you God for giving me the power to cry. sadness is a gift just give me guidance on when to use it. I know Jesus walks beside all of us, I will listen with my heart and allow me to hear his footsteps.

My Lord Jesus, allow me to see evil so I can avoid it. Keep me safe from its power. Let me be able to fight evil with a peaceful loving heart. Give me the wisdom to understand your words. When you come for my wealth, health, and life, Lord let me have the sight to see your right and I will thank you for what I have enjoyed and I will surrender to your will. Lord until that day keep my soul safe with your warmth.
