The California Independent System Operator is asking residents for “voluntary energy conservation” over the Labor Day weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the western United States is facing a “prolonged and record heat wave.”

“The top three conservation actions are to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights,” the American Public Power Association said, asking residents to limit energy usage during 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“Today, most people charge their electric cars when they come home in the evening — when electricity demand is typically at its peak,” according to Cornell University’s College of Engineering. “If left unmanaged, the power demanded from many electric vehicles charging simultaneously in the evening will amplify existing peak loads, potentially outstripping the grid’s current capacity to meet demand.” FULL STORY

ELECTRIC SHOCK: Price Spike Will Push Cost Of Running EVs Above Gas-Powered Cars

British energy regulators told electricity consumers to expect to pay 80% more beginning Oct. 1, making electric vehicles cost more before and after owners drive them off the lot. The hardest impact will be on drivers who travel long distances or do not have access to an at-home charger.

British energy prices eclipsed those of many other Europeans because the nation lacks domestic energy storage and production of natural gas, nuclear and renewables, making it more reliant on imports.

Kenny Stein, policy director of the Institute for Energy Research, warned that the financial hardship in Europe from rising energy prices is an omen for Americans if the U.S. transitions from fossil fuels to renewables faster than the supply can handle.

“For the U.S., this actually gets to an underlying fallacy of a lot of people that are pushing electric vehicles: They assert electric vehicles are cheaper because they assume electricity prices are going to stay cheap,” Mr. Stein said.

Yep! EVs are the future - & for many folks that future is rather than driven, they'll be parked & walked away from 'cuz charging them costs too much. That's OK tho. In time gas or electric vehicle ownership for the masses will be a thing of the past.

Well down the page there was not one positive Tweet!

A "stronger, more resilient infrastructure" means a mix of energy and transportation fuels.

When electricity fails, people with gas appliances can still heat homes & cook food. Diesel trucks can still deliver supplies.

All electric everything everywhere creates a fragile monoculture. It's like growing one crop.

Our transportation system must never rely on a single, instantly-interruptible fuel source.

True diversity means alternatives. Which use different tech than the thing they're backing up. Gas is a better backup for electricity, and vice versa.

100% electric car & truck mandates may prove riskier than the problem they purport to solve.
