MeTV Toons To Debut This Summer

A 24-hour classic cartoon channel that will feature retro animated series is scheduled to launch June 25 and will be distributed on free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) platforms and over-the-air broadcast stations across the country. The MeTV Toons channel will serve as an extension of Weigel Broadcasting’s flagship channel that has offered a Saturday morning cartoon block for several years.

Programming will largely come from Warner Bros Discovery’s classic animation library, including shows under the Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera brands. Weigel also is aggregating classic animation content from such producers as MGM, Paramount Pictures, Fleischer Studios, Walter Lantz Productions, Terrytoons, Jay Ward Productions, Universal Studios, Columbia Pictures and others.

“There is going to be a tremendous amount of variety on this network and it will all be focused on original versions of classic cartoons,” stated Neal Sabin, Vice Chairman of Weigel Broadcasting. “Having some of the studio’s most iconic animated characters all available in one place is not only great for fans of classic animation, but also just super fun!” said David Decker, President of Content Sales at WBD.

Animation historian Jerry Beck and voice actor Bob Bergen are joining the new network at launch. Beck will help produce original content intended to expand and enhance the viewing experience. Bergen — who has voiced such classic animated characters as Porky Pig, Tweety Bird and Marvin the Martian – will serve as the network’s signature voice.
